Building Understanding, Strengthening Community

As the newly launched Focus on Fremont community scorecard continues to highlight important opportunities and challenges facing our region, community members are coming together to better understand one of the factors that impacts many quality-of-life outcomes: poverty.

This spring, the Fremont Area Community Foundation partnered with United Way of Dodge & Washington Counties to bring Bridges Out of Poverty training opportunities to our community, helping participants gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by individuals and families experiencing poverty.

The initiative began with two community-wide training sessions in March, which brought together community leaders, educators, employers, nonprofit professionals, healthcare providers, faith leaders, and other engaged residents for meaningful conversations about the realities of poverty and the systems that can either create barriers or open doors to opportunity.

Building on the momentum of those sessions, a series of sector-specific breakout trainings was held in June. These sessions allowed participants to explore how poverty impacts their particular fields and encouraged collaboration across sectors to identify practical solutions and strengthen support systems within our community.

More than 100 individuals participated across the various sessions, demonstrating a shared commitment to understanding complex community challenges and working together to create pathways toward greater stability and opportunity for all.

The conversations sparked through Bridges Out of Poverty align closely with the goals of Focus on Fremont, which provides data and insights to help our community better understand local trends and make informed decisions. By combining awareness, data, and collaboration, we can move beyond identifying challenges and begin building solutions together.

At the Fremont Area Community Foundation, we believe lasting change begins with bringing people together around important issues. We are grateful to our partners at United Way of Dodge & Washington Counties and to everyone who participated in these conversations and contributed to building a stronger, more connected community.
