Founded in 2012 by Marv Welstead, a devoted husband, local businessman, and caregiver to his wife Jean, the Fremont Area Alzheimer’s Collaboration was created to support caregivers and advance promising Alzheimer’s research.
Marv remained an active and passionate member of the committee until his passing in 2019 at the age of 98. His legacy lives on through the work of this group, continuing to make a difference in the lives of caregivers and the progress of Alzheimer’s research.
This committee has dedicated its efforts to both caregiver education and local research, aimed at better understanding and ultimately curing Alzheimer’s disease. Since 2012, over $25,000 has been dedicated to local caregiver training and education, and over $150,000 has been granted to institutions engaged in promising Alzheimer’s and dementia research studies.
Alzheimer’s disease trends indicate a growing prevalence with increasing numbers of individuals diagnosed and affected. We feel it is important to continue to fight on behalf of those with Alzheimer’s disease, as well as those who care for them.
The Fremont Area Community Foundation (FACF) serves as the fiscal backbone of the collaboration, providing vital administrative support to ensure transparency, sustainability, and long-term impact.
