Friendly Contests & Fun Things to Tie to Your Mission

  • An Executive Director had to dress up in a prom dress and read a poem about the nonprofit on the steps of the Capitol Building if the nonprofit raised X amount of money.
  • At a Denver chorale, there was a contest between altos, tenors, etc. The section with the least amount of money raised had to pick up the chairs after practice
  • The Denver chorale wanted to raise enough money to pay for 1 performance. They posted an image of a theater seating chart, and as donations came in, they colored in the seats to the show filling up.
  • A Habitat for Humanity raised enough money to build a house on their giving day. They built the frame on giving day, but continued to receive coverage on it until the owners moved in because it was the "Giving Day House."

Tips for Success

  • Think about how you can make it visual
  • Think outside the box
  • Tie it to your mission
  • Have fun with it!
