Tornado presentation funded through Youth Philanthropy Grants Program

After much planning and preparation, Alexa Brodd made her first presentation on preparing for a tornado or other natural disaster.

Brodd spoke to the two fifth grader classes at North Bend Elementary School. After her power point presentation, the students were given a nylon back sack to fill with supplies, a starter disaster kit. Items they put in their bags included a first aid kit, pencils and notebooks, a plastic bag, toilet paper and a bottle of water.

Brodd had an evaluation form for the students to fill out afterwards. One student said he learned about how tornadoes are created and what the difference is between a tornado watch, which says there might be a tornado and a warning meaning there is a tornado.

Brodd’s project was supported by the North Bend Area Community Foundation and the Fremont Area Community Foundation Youth Philanthropy programs.
